Soap Box Derby

Every year normally on the Wednesday and Thursday of Hamble Week
Teams of 5 Race down the cobbled high street in purpose built soap box racers, down the slip way and into the river Hamble. From there its a battle of arm strength as they paddle around two piers and then push them back up the hill.

The half mile course, starting at the top of the cobbled high street
Hundreds of bystanders watch as the teams of 5 take it in turn to race down the hill, trying to avoid crashing into houses and pubs whilst being pelted by water balloons and flour bombs... splashing into the river Hamble at speeds of up to 30mph. They then have to paddle around to the next public slipway and push the soap boxes back up the hill to the finish line outside the King and Queen.
All teams race on both Day 1 and Day 2, and the winners are the team with the lowest combined time. Entry fee is £25 per team, and proceeds go to charity. The two nights of soap box carnage are normally very busy at the pub, you will find a lively atmosphere with plenty of extras, BBQ's, free Rum samples, special offers, and 'Shot Girls' handing out Tequila in the beer garden.
If you are interested in entering the Soap Box Derby next time, you will need to find a team of 5 people (18+) who are crazy enough to put themselves through this. Ask at the bar for an entry form during the weeks coming up to Hamble week.
