Dear Visitor,
It's June…. the warm balmy evenings should be back. At least our customers are back so we aren't complaining! Thank you to all our very loyal patrons, we do try to run a good establishment, providing you with great food, the perfect pint and chilled wines, as well as good coffees and friendly, super-intelligent staff eager to please. We don't always get it right but hopefully we get it right, mostly, and can continue to be your favorite local.
The event to kick off the summer is on Monday 13th June. All interested parties are invited, especially KQ Yacht Club members. One of our members Mike (Petal) Webb, is re-launching/unveiling a newly decorated/refurbished Quarter-Tonner aptly named "Flashheart". It may surprise you, it will definitely impress you, so make sure you attend 7.00pm sharp in yacht club attire (blazer if you have one), there will be celebratory fizz and canapés, as well as a BBQ.
Then on the 18th & 19th June The K&Q and The Wild Group Graphics Company are sponsoring The Interstellar Foxer Championships. Everyone is welcome to attend the Prize Giving on Sunday 19th at 5.00pm at the pub, BBQ, Live Music, a party of course and your chance to mingle with the champion of the fleet with red & black sails. It will be top-notch racing on the Hamble River, right on your doorstep. The same formula will re-occur for the Stiletto Cup -this is of course the ladies version of the Foxer Nationals (Worlds?) on the 3rd July. (One day only. A Wight Vodka cocktail for all competitors will be provided as well as a bottle for both winners and Wight Vodka caps for top three in both events. Come and get involved, party, or race, spectate or merely as a racer chaser – everyone has a role after all.
Don’t forget to book for Father’s Day on Sunday 19th June – roasts as usual, other food also available – live music in the evening from 6pm till 9pm.
Round The Island (25th June) – we are taking very limited bookings for the evening meals before (24th) and after (25th) the race, however we will be having a BBQ on both evenings. On the Saturday evening from 8.30pm we are having Live Music to get into the spirit of the after race party, helped along by very aptly named Wight Vodka Cocktails – come and join us.
Hamble Week is from 30th June to 3rd July this year – as you’ve probably heard there will be no K&Q-Casse Tete Soapbox Derby but we will be having garden parties and a BBQ most evenings. Sad, but unfortunately as a result of bad behavior the best event has had to go – a ”victim of its own success”.
A date to enter in your diary is the 22nd to 24th July – The Woman’s Open Keelboat Championships – on the Friday evening the K&Q will be hosting the weather briefing for competitors & a BBQ – all with a pink theme in support of Breast Cancer. A percentage of all “Pink Drinks” (Rose, Tequila Rose etc) consumed will be donated to the fund. Please wear & drink “Pink” at The K&Q on the 22nd to help a very good cause.
The annual John Merrick’s Inter-pub Cricket Match will be played on the 24th July. Please support your King & Queen team – we are the defending champions and will be kitted out again this year by The Wild Group. Another brilliant day not to be missed – the after party at the pub is always quite special and we raise finds for another worthy cause.
We look foward to seeing you all soon, lets have a brilliant summer!
The Queen x
